Just the other week I travelled to Antwerp to research a forthcoming feature for Homes & Antiques magazine. It was a pleasure to spend 48 hours in the city, and a delight to stay at the beautiful Hotel Flora.
People often talk about places being ‘an oasis in a busy city’, but this really was like finding a magical Narnia behind an unassuming side-street door. Warm madeleines and welcome cocktails, decadent yet comfortable interiors, and a pocket of peaceful walled garden – silence in the city. We woke to the smell of freshly baked bread, granola and jams, straight from the AGA. This could be a home from home (please, someone make it so!)
You can book one of seven rooms, or rent the whole house at Hotel Flora. Head out to dinner at Fiera, another hidden gem in Antwerp, and don’t miss the excellent MoMu museum of fashion. Antwerp is a really great city to visit. I’ll be recommending many more lovely locations in my article for Homes & Antiques soon.
I was a guest of Hotel Flora and Visit Antwerp. As always, my opinions are my own (and my appreciation of a hotel breakfast, unfaltering!)
