Everyday Life

EVERYDAY LIFE: This Has Already Happened

This has already happened … and this, and this, and… it’s all in the past. If there’s one thing to spur you on to live your best life and enjoy every moment, it should be the idea of time moving, at speed.

The end of the year is here, and as always I am reminded of how lucky I am. Learn from the past, be present in the moment (which by now, has also passed), and work for a better future.

I sat next to a woman on the train who had just won a Lamborghini. On the way home I sat opposite a giant Christmas pudding.

I wrote about the legendary Ferrari F40 for Influx, read it here, alongside their excellent short film.

Earlier in the year I traveled to The Netherlands with the National Gallery, and wrote this article about Frans Hals’ Haarlem for Homes and Antiques magazine.

I was supposed to go to Las Vegas as a guest of Formula One, but instead I stayed at home and ate a bag of Plopp.

AUTO PHOTO 02 is out now (buy the book here) with the wonderful Top 100 images from the 2023 AUTO PHOTO Awards. The winners, including the People’s Choice Award, will be announced on 04 January.

I’m giving portfolio reviews again for Format Festival this coming spring, they sold out super fast, which is kind of cool! For photographers in Canada, I’m giving reviews for Exposure Photography Festival, and for anywhere else – drop me a note!

We recently donated 50 copies of our POETRY book to Mind Charity, and after getting some heart-warming feedback we decided to make it a thing. Now, for every book sold, we’ll give a copy to someone at a Mind REST Hub.

The Shutter Hub OPEN 23/24 exhibition launched earlier this month with Art at the ARB at Cambridge University. It’s been a real pleasure to bring the work of over 130 photographers together in one place, and it felt even more amazing to welcome the hundreds of guests who joined us on a rainy Sunday in the city. I didn’t get to speak to everyone (funny that!) but I did see my friend Aoife and her lovely family (and they gave me some parsnips which turned out to be carrots).

In the new year I’m hoping to get over to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie to see our TO THE SEA exhibition (and eat croissants whilst staring at the ocean with the wind, and buttery crumbs, in my hair).

I spoke to Lucy Brialey at the Global Wellness Institute about the work we’re doing at Toiletries Amnesty and how we’ve achieved several of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Read the article here.

Tessa Dunthorne from Country and Town House magazine featured Toiletries Amnesty in her article Save The World In 2024: Sustainable New Year’s Resolutions.

And, in other Toiletries Amnesty related news, I broke the suspension on my car delivering thousands of winter gifts!

Things are going to be different in 2024, I’m not sure how… I’m not there yet!
